SHELBURNE (SHELLY) J. VESELKA is the partner responsible for the delinquent tax programs in several Texas counties, including Guadalupe, Brazos, Bastrop, Taylor, Hardin and Calhoun. He has been a member of
MVBA since 1971. Shelly has extensive experience in tax litigation, both in the trial courts and appellate courts. He has personally conducted the sale of thousands of parcels of real property and summary seizures of personal property. Shelly has addressed many civic organizations and professional tax organizations on property tax matters.
Shelly was raised in several towns in the Texas oil patch where his father was a petroleum engineer. His family moved to Houston in 1956, and he graduated from Bellaire High School in 1960. He graduated in 1964 from Texas A&M University with a B.A. in History. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. While in the Army, he trained in field artillery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia; and Aerial Photography Interpretation for Military Intelligence at Fort Holabird, Maryland. Shelly served in Vietnam where he advanced to the rank of Captain, was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1969, he entered the University of Texas School of Law earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1971. Shelly is a member of the State Bar of Texas.
